Château Moutinot Saint-Estephe 13,5%
From £22.80
The geology of the Saint Estephe appellation is particularly different to its neighbouring appellations. Firstly, the average altitude is higher, with slopes which enable rainfall to drain and limestone sub-soils which bring water back up through capillarity during periods of drought. Two ledges in the shape of a half-moon from South to East, facing the Gironde River,
emphasise once again the originality of this vineyard area.
The presence of clay in Saint Estephe marks a real difference with the other terroirs. It has meant that exceptional wines could be made in very dry years.
The Saint Estèphe style of architecture in the village and in the properties adds a mineral touch which delicately punctuates the range of greens in the vineyards. It is in this special landscape that Chateau Moutinot is located, at the heart of a vineyard area which includes five classified growths and four ‘crus bourgeois exceptionnels’.

Drinkability
Fermented in temperature-controlled (thermoregulated) stainless steel and cement vats to preserve the grapes’ fresh and natural aromatics. The wine undergoes little to no oak aging. This choice allows pure, primary fruit flavors (like blackberry, cherry coulis, and spice) to shine through without heavy woody interference.
The wine is bottled in the glass and has no date of expiry. We recommend to drink it with in 10 years from the vintage.
Store in a cool dry and dark place on it’s side.
Bouquet
Complex and expressive with aromas of cherry jam, blackberry, white pepper, and subtle spices.
Palate
Supple and well-balanced. You’ll find notes of dark fruit, plum jam, and vanilla, supported by soft, elegant tannins. Persistent, clean, and gently spicy finish.
Pairing
Château Moutinot pairs beautifully with roasted and grilled red meats, robust lamb chops, rib of beef, venison, and earthy mushroom dishes

This wine is only made in exceptional vintages and with very limited production that never exceeds 10,000 bottles.
The harvest is carried out by hand, with the grapes having been selected bunch by bunch before been placed in boxes of 14 kg. The 70 year old vines, from which this wine is made only produce 2 bunches of grapes per plant, imposing a deep garnet red colour to the wine.
A wonderful mixture of aromas and flavours, due to the meticulous selection of grapes, from Valduero’s oldest vineyards ( which are more than 70 years old). It ages for 48 months in oak barrels from 6 different origins, surrounded by the silence and calm of Valduero’s natural cave with constant humidity and temperature.
