Finding the place pleasant and fertile, Diomedes decided to plant the vine shoots he had brought with him as a souvenir from the distant city of Troy. Sauvignon blanc, a grape of French origin, owes its name to the fact that its leaves resemble those of wild vines. It therefore became known as sauvage vignon, meaning spontaneous vineyard.
